June 2020 - The Diplomat's Wife
Happy Anniversary, Book Club!! This month, it's been one year since we started our book club! I can’t believe that it’s been a whole year! Time really does fly!
I hope this finds you all heathy, happy and missing our book club meetings as much as I am! I miss seeing all of you! Our last meeting was a Zoom get together, and it actually went very well! I am hoping that next month we will all be back together again at the store.
Speaking of the store, we are once again open for business and have lots of new merchandise for spring and summer. But if you are choosing to still shop carefully, check out our new online store!
I have chosen The Diplomat’s Wife by Pam Jenoff as this month’s book. The book revisits a character from a previous book we have read but takes place post-World War II and moves us from France over to Poland. I didn’t want to have too much time pass since reading The Kommandant’s Girl and our new book, as I wanted it to be relatively fresh in everyones mind. I hope you all enjoy it!
Here are the details:

Book: The Diplomat's Wife by Pam Jenoff
"How have I been lucky enough to come here, to be alive, when so many others are not? I should have died... But I am here."
1945. Surviving the brutality of a Nazi prison camp, Marta Nederman is lucky to have escaped with her life. Recovering from the horror, she meets Paul, an American soldier who gives her hope of a happier future. But their plans to meet in London are dashed when Paul's plane crashes.
Devastated and pregnant, Marta marries Simon, a caring British Diplomat and glimpses the joy that home and family can bring. But her happiness is threatened when she learns of a communist spy in British intelligence, and that the one person who can expose the traitor is connected to her past...
In this dramatic follow-up to the bestselling Kommandant's Girl, Pam Jenoff writes of a time of uneasy peace and rising paranoia, when love and desperation could make liars of us all.
This book is available on Amazon, Kindle, at Barnes and Noble, in our online store or you can stop by the store for a copy!
If you can’t make a book club meeting that’s fine. There’s always next month!
If you are planning to attend, please R.S.V.P to info@lavenderhilldesigns.com or (843) 352-7042.
I hope everyone stays well and heathy until our next meeting. Keep social distancing and washing those hands!
Remember…literature is the most agreeable way of ignoring life.
Happy reading!
