May 2020 - The Vineyards of Champagne

I hope everyone is staying healthy and finding ways to keep busy during this quarantine! I know my closets have never been more organized!!! We were sad not to see everyone last week but are happy to do our part to flatten the curve. And we've been working on some exciting things for the store, including our online store - which should be available to shop soon!

I am also finding plenty of time to read!  Did you all enjoy last month’s book That Month in Tuscany? I don't know about you, but I have a very strong desire to visit Italy, traipse around the Italian countryside and drink wine! I had an even stronger desire to indulge in lots of pasta, which I did!

For this month's book, I am choosing a more involved read that bounces back and forth between the past and present. I hope we all enjoy the book, as I have not yet read it either! Hopefully next month we will be able to meet again to discuss our books and visit with one another over a glass of wine!

If we are unable to meet, I am considering a Zoom book club meeting. If you would be interested in doing this, please email info@lavenderhilldesigns.com, and I will send you an invitation. Unusual times call for unusual book club solutions!

Book: The Vineyards of Champagne by Juliet Blackwell

Beneath the cover of France's most exquisite vineyards, a city of women defy an army during World War I

Deep within the labyrinth of caves that lies below the lush, rolling vineyards of the Champagne region, an underground city of women and children hums with life. Forced to take shelter from the unrelenting onslaught of German shellfire above, the bravest and most defiant women venture out to pluck sweet grapes for the harvest. But wine is not the only secret preserved in the cool, dark cellars...

In present day, Rosalyn Acosta travels to Champagne to select vintages for her Napa-based employer. Rosalyn doesn't much care for champagne--or France, for that matter. Since the untimely death of her young husband, Rosalyn finds it a challenge to enjoy anything at all. But as she reads through a precious cache of WWI letters and retraces the lives lived in the limestone tunnels, Rosalyn will unravel a mystery hidden for decades...and find a way to savor her own life again.

This book is available on Amazon, Kindle and at Barnes and Noble
If you can’t make a book club meeting that’s fine. There’s always next month! If you are planning to attend, please R.S.V.P to info@lavenderhilldesigns.com or (843) 352-7042.

I hope everyone stays well and heathy until our next meeting. Keep social distancing and washing those hands!

Remember…reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.

Happy reading!
~ Tracey
