I Yam What I Yam!

Have you ever heard of “International No Diet Day”? I had not until recently. What? This is crazy, right?

International No Diet Day - Celebrate Yourself Just the Way You Are - Self Love

I personally hate the word diet. It’s a 4-letter word that makes me want to eat Doritos! The idea of a full, guilt-free day with no nutritional rules makes me cuckoo for coco puffs! The right side of my brain dreams of milkshakes, in every flavor. The left side of my brain, the buzz kill side, vetoed my chocolate éclair fantasies. I’m intrigued by this national holiday but need more info before diving into the deep end of gluttony. What does this day mean?

It’s not what you think! International No Diet Day does not encourage self-indulgence. Actually, the opposite. This day encourages self-love. For so many people, and especially women, unattainable body standards and pressure have prompted eating disorders, low self-esteem, bullying, and unhealthy, restrictive diets. This day is an annual celebration that promotes body acceptance and diversity of body shape.

I have tried many diets over the years. To be honest, I’m still trying to lose my pregnancy weight – and my babies are 27 and 33! On May 6th, International No Diet Day encourages all of us to put away our scales and form a new relationship with the person in the mirror! Popeye (for those of us who remember this sailor) said it best, “I yam what I yam, and that’s all that I yam!” Today give your body a hug and tell it thank you! Smile at the person in the mirror and let her know she is beautiful….just the way she is!

This week and next, join LHD as we celebrate Spring – and You! – with our Spring in Bloom Sale. You don’t want to miss this event! Visit us at our new location or shop the sale online. And remember…we appreciate you just the way you are!
