You are a Pearl!

Jackie Kennedy once said, “Pearls are always appropriate!”

On National Wear Your Pearls Day, this rings especially true, but not for the reasons you may be thinking. Today, the pearls you wear symbolize adversity, value, strength, resilience, resourcefulness, and beauty. In other words, they represent everything YOU are!

Like you, pearls are unique. Their shape, size and color vary. Their story is original Like a fine piece of art, no two are alike. They, like you, are a magnum opus. A masterpiece of beauty. And with every masterpiece, patience is required.

The formation of a pearl takes time. Their strength, resilience, and resourcefulness don’t happen overnight. The pearl begins its story as an annoyance to the oyster. The oyster's natural reaction is to cover up that irritant to protect itself and continue covering it until the annoyance presents itself as a beautiful, strong pearl.

The adversity of the oyster changed the course of its life to create that pearl, so power to the oyster! And power to each of you who have overcome obstacles or are working your way through them.

“A pearl is only a pearl once it’s out of its shell,” according to a Nigerian Proverb. Let the world see the beauty that is within you, and wear your pearls proud today! Knowing where you have been, the challenges along the way, and the strength and courage it took to get to where you are, you are a magnum opus! Just like the pearl.
